TIME LOG 14

This week i rakued all 5 pieces. First I had to figure out what i was going to glaze them to make them fit the theme. I decided on 2 different glazes (one mat and one glossy). Next I fired them. I was able to fit them into 2 individual firings. Next I cleaned each one and continued to break and chip them into smaller pieces. After this i started to piece them together again and wait on them to dry.

TIME LOG 13

this week i lived in the studio throwing the 3 other pieces, extruding pieces for the bottles and teapots, trimming, and carving. I then watched the pieces and fixed cracks from drying and loaded the pieces into the kiln... I should have a couple out ready to glaze tomorrow. I have been going through ideas on how to do the 2D compositions.

TOTAL HOURS= 23.5 hours

TIME LOG 12

threw a 2 pieces and prepared the clay by wedging and getting bats ready. I had to redo some sketches to fit the pieces.

TIME LOG 11

this week i was mainly focusing on getting my final concepts ready for each person, remixing clay in order to throw the pieces for the bisque firing, concluding all interviews, deciding on composition size, reevaluating process. I feel as if i am at a place to finally start rolling!!

TIME LOG 10

I finished up the interviews. Finalizing the "vessels" for each person and working on construction and destruction techniques and starting the big drawings of the vessels

TIME LOG 9

This week i have found very very hard to focus on school, very very hard to manage 4 studios, and very very hard to work while not being in a classroom setting. I assumed that with a week off from school that i would come back fully motivated and ready to finish the semester strong; however, I was COMPLETELY wrong. This week i spent 5 hours thinking about each persons interviews, setting up the interview times, sketching the vessels, debating on mediums, ect.

TOTAL HOURS= 5 HRS

TIME LOG 8

TOTAL HOURS= 6

I wrote out interview questions that would lead the subject to answer questions relating to their physical and emotional qualities. I would use the answers to help me create a vessel that directly represented their aura but not necessarily represent their insecurities. I then interviewed myself, messick, and one of the girls. Once these were completed I then did sketches of their vessel.

SENIOR DRAWING CONTRACT

By the final critique i will have 5 completed compositions. These will consist of 3 individual pieces mounted on a wooded composition. There are two mixed media 2d pieces and a 3d ceramic vessel that will complete each composition.

TIME LOG 7

i spent a couple hours going though all my old insecurity sheets, images, and 0ld compositions. I talked to a couple new people about being the subject to my "vessel" instillation. I started looking into vessel shapes and looking at specific characteristics of the subject to bring into the vessels "aura" through its shape, designs, textures, ect. I researched more glazes and clays for raku vessels.

TIME LOG 6

This week i spent a lot of time debating on what i wanted to focus on throughout this semester. I at first decided that i wanted to step away from the original plan of doing vessels that represent that specific person and move to doing drawings of monsters. I started drawing and thinking about ideas and talked to the BOSS. So the monster idea went out the window and i planned on doing drawing that would stand alone as a complete piece but would be studies for my ceramic "crabs" that i am doing in class. I would drawing different scenes of where they would be displayed. After thinking about it some more and debating on what direction i wanted to take, I ended up making a complete circle and now I am back at square one with my original idea. A whole week wasted on concept ideas.

TIME LOG 5

This week i spent time going through my insecurity sheets from last semester, collecting all the sheets and images of the subjects, thinking about what attributes or qualities i could use to influence the shape of the vessel that represents them.= 4 hrs

I searched the internet for clay formulas for Raku firings, glaze formulas, and structure and shaping techniques for my vessels= 2.5 hrs

I threw some demo pieces and are letting them dry to then fire them and break them to find out what destruction techniques i wanna use for the post bisque breaks. = 3 hrs

TIME LOG 4

3 hours= talking to Prof Cox and fellow students about my ideas. Talking about other possible solutions, ect

2.5 hours= researching new clay bodies for raku firing and determining if the recipe is for wheel throwing or hand-building and what to do to compensate for that.

3 hrs= looking at the compositions from last semester, talking to the models, and found a couple more models for new solutions. I started thinking of possible "vessel" ideas.

Time Log 3

7 hours= thinking about my direction this year. I have developed my ideas multiple times throughout the week and they maintain the same general theme but changed in the process. Right now i still want to do a blueprint study of a vessel on a large sheet with a heavy wash. This would be mounted on a large wooden panel with a shelf built on the bottom to hold the constructed vessel itself. This would be made from a raku clay mixture, thrown to match the blueprint, bisque fired, broken, raku fired in different parts, and bound back together (displayed with all the cracks, different glazes, different textures shown right up next to each other). I would like for the wash and pieces to uphold the same essence as the portraits i was creating last semester and have them displayed together. The next step is deciding on if or how they can be linked.

4.5 hours= thinking about what it means to write a letter, what exactly does visual mean, and what was the first day of my life?? I noted that letters were normally written to someone from another, that something visual describes a moment in time and one could do it either through visual word play or visual descriptive marks. I knew I wanted to highlight my dad's death as the worst day of my life. I wanted to write a letter to him explaining what happened that day, how i felt, and to bring some closer to the incident. This would be shown with the box i found at his girlfriends house along with the only couple items i have of his.

TOTAL HOURS= 11.5 hours

TIME LOG 2

2.5 hrs= thinking about possible solutions to the problem presented and talked to people about what they would die/kill for.

3 hrs= drawing different solutions and compositions for solutions that ranged from super-human powers to raising the dead to saving someone's life.

1 hr= prepping for my final solution, developing the concept, thinking about it abstractly.

4 hrs= debating on my contract, where i want to see my work go this semester, how can i take it to the next level, and how far outside of the box can i go??

TOTAL HOURS = 10.5
